Dons takeover given go ahead

posted: 03 December 2008

Steeden sponsored team Doncaster RLFC have been taken over by new owners Karen Bailey and Dave Marshall after the Rugby Football League Board gave the takeover the go ahead.

Bailey and Marshall, who held positions at the club before becoming owners, take over from Craig Harrison who is choosing to leave the club in a mutual agreement on good terms.

Since taking over 18 months ago Harrison turned the failing Doncaster club around, pulling them away from looming administration. Along with partner Shane Miller, they invested personal money into the club and signing top class players. Through this guidance, Doncaster made it to Cup finals; division plays offs and were awarded the National League 2 Community Club of the year. They currently play in the newly formed Championship Division 1.

New chief executive Dave Marshall has paid tribute to the mountains of work and effort put in by Craig Harrison:

“The club owes a lot of gratitude to Craig for what he’s done and the position he has left the club, on behalf of everyone involved I would like to thank him.”

Marshall went on to highlight the importance of the upcoming season for the Dons:

“It is now time for the club to move on and focus on the job in hand and sustaining what has been created.” Marshall said “Were confident we can achieve our goals but we need the people of Doncaster to get behind us and help us succeed.”

The club have launched a host of new business initiatives to try and boost the clubs future, keep up to date with the Dons buy visiting there website on the link below.
